Cheapest way to travel to Las Vegas from Los Angeles?
I have seen some pretty cheap deals for flying from Los Angeles to Las Vegas ($119 / £74) - I dont know though is it worth hiring a car and driving there and back or does it cost a lot for petrol in the USA and toll charges and then so it would owrk out cheaper to fly than drive?

$119 is not a bad deal at all. Hiring (here we call it renting) a car might be more or less expensive, depending on the model of car. Figure $30-$50 per day for a compact to mid-size car. Petrol/gasoline (or just "gas") is currently $3 per gallon or so, roughly $.75 per liter. I hear you Brits pay quite a bit more over there. But figure about $80-$90 in gas costs alone. So $119 isn't so bad at all. Oh yeah, there are no toll roads between LA and Vegas. The tax on gasoline funds the interstate highway system.

Well ... when you consider that time is money, it might well be better all around to fly over and back, especially if you're traveling anytime between now and October because of the beastly, oppressive, will-to-live sucking H E A T. The temperature in Las Vegas and the surrounding desert area (which extends all the way to California, which means that you'll encounter these temperatures about an hour outside of LA while on the drive) is a high of 103 F (approx 40 or thereabouts C) with an overnight low of 86 F (approx 34 C or so). I've been there in the month of August when it was 105 F at 2am, so just know that it does not cool off at night. Heaven forbid but if the car breaks down on your drive, you would be stranded in heat that's dangerously high. When you factor in the time it would take to make the drive, which averages around 5 hours, I would just as soon fly as drive. It's a quick 45 minute hop (once you get past the check in line etc, but still!!), and you're there. If you like, you could rent a car in Vegas, although their public transport has gone through some MAJOR improvements with the monorail system that takes you from one end of the strip to the other in 15 minutes. A day pass for the monorail is just $12, which is cab fare for one ride from the Stratosphere to the Luxor. The monorail is definitely the way to go, especially in the daytime when it's so bleedin' hot. If you've got a flight for $119, I'd take it and call myself happy :D

Fly, some flights like on Southwest Airlines can go as little as $35 per person, one way. Gas (petrol) isn't as expensive as Great Britain, in fact it's a lot less expensive, and since you're a visitor it would probably be wise to rent a car and drive through the desert and see the scenery. There are no toll charges along the way. Besides you may want to end up renting a car anyways to drive out to Hoover Dam, Laughlin, etc etc. You'll need a car in Vegas anyway. Good luck ducks!

No doubt there no other alternative to Flight travel, But it will gonna cost you for that comfort. So if you want to save some money then renting a car will be a good option for you. You could try the Greyhound bus (see www.greyhound.com to get fare and schedule information), but that will be about an 8-hour ride each way with stops.

You can also try Luxbus: http://www.luxbusamerica.com/index.php If you want to drive yourself, it will probably be cheaper than driving if you have several people in your group. It also depends on how many days you are staying.
